Street Maintenance and Cleaning
The maintenance and cleaning of streets are governed by the Act on the Maintenance and Cleanliness of Streets and Certain Public Areas.
In addition to its statutory obligations, the City of Kuhmo is responsible, by decision of the City Council, for snow removal and the removal of compacted snow and ice from sidewalks and pedestrian and cycling paths.
Responsibility for winter maintenance is divided as follows:
- Property owners are responsible for preventing slippery conditions on sidewalks adjacent to their properties.
- The City of Kuhmo is responsible for preventing slippery conditions on pedestrian and cycling paths.
Street Construction
Streets are constructed in accordance with the city’s investment programme approved by the City Council. Street plans are approved by the Vitality Committee. Street construction is governed by the Land Use and Building Act.

Parks
The Parks Unit is responsible for the planning, construction and maintenance of public green areas.
Maintenance work includes the care of trees, shrubs, seasonal flower plantings and lawns, as well as the upkeep of public furniture and playground equipment.
Martinpolku Dog Park
Kuhmo’s dog park is located on Martinpolku, along the road leading to the ice arena.
The dog park provides a safe area where dogs can exercise off leash. Dog owners are responsible for supervising their dogs at all times while using the park.
Visitors are expected to follow the general rules and good practices of dog parks. More detailed instructions are available at the entrance to the park.
