Promotion of Well-being
The municipality is required to monitor the health and well-being of its residents and the factors affecting them across different population groups. We also monitor the measures implemented through municipal services to address residents’ well-being needs. The Well-being Coordinator reports annually to the City Council on residents’ health and well-being and on the measures taken. In addition, a more comprehensive well-being report is prepared for the City Council once during each council term.
In Kuhmo, well-being promotion is part of the Growth and Learning Services. The Well-being and Education Committee is the body responsible for well-being promotion. The Well-being Management Group and the Well-being Coordinator coordinate efforts to promote residents’ well-being and encourage organisations and individuals to take actions that support well-being. Promoting well-being is a responsibility shared by all City sectors and supports the City’s strategic and operational objectives, which are reviewed annually as part of the budget preparation process.
Well-being promotion is based on multidisciplinary and multi-professional cooperation. The Youth Council, the Council for Older People and People with Disabilities, associations and other stakeholders are also invited to participate. In this people-centred approach, everyone has a role in promoting well-being, and residents’ own actions to improve well-being can also have a significant impact on the vitality of the region.
Kuhmo’s well-being reports and plans are prepared electronically. Completed documents are available on the Hyvinvointikertomus.fi website. Approved documents are also provided in printed form at the Kuhmo City Library.
