Kuhmo offers its residents a genuine and unspoilt living environment with reliable public services.

Environmental Protection

The municipal authority responsible for environmental protection in Kuhmo is the Vitality Committee. The aim of environmental protection is to prevent environmental pollution while taking local conditions into account.

Maintenance of Municipal Infrastructure

The construction and maintenance of streets, private roads, parks, and other public areas are the responsibility of the City’s Urban Environment Services.

Summer Cottage Committee

The aim of the Kuhmo Summer Cottage Committee is to improve communication and cooperation among cottage owners, between cottage owners and the City of Kuhmo, and between cottage owners, local residents, village associations, and businesses. The committee actively promotes matters that are important to cottage owners. Participation is open to everyone with an interest in the development of Kuhmo’s cottage community.

Pajakkasuvanto Carpet Washing Facility

A public, free-of-charge, and well-equipped carpet washing facility is located in the centre of Kuhmo, between the Pajakkasuvanto boat harbour and the health centre.

The facility is equipped with stainless steel washing basins, a carpet wringer, and drying racks. Washing water is pumped from the lake, and the wastewater is directed to the municipal wastewater treatment plant for purification.

The carpet washing facility is open daily from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. during the summer season. It opens in spring after the floodwaters have receded and the pumps have been installed, and remains in use until autumn, when the pumps are removed for winter storage before freezing temperatures arrive.
