The municipality’s role is to provide a safe, functional and pleasant environment for its residents by taking care of education, infrastructure and the living environment. At the same time, it supports local entrepreneurship, rural livelihoods and sustainable development to ensure the vitality of the area for generations to come.
The City works together with its residents – because every voice matters. Residents can influence decision-making by taking part in residents’ meetings, surveys and working groups, as well as by submitting feedback through an online form. Advisory bodies and cooperation with local organisations also provide opportunities to make your voice heard.

The City is here for all of us. Under the Finnish Local Government Act, residents as well as organisations and foundations operating in the municipality have the right to submit initiatives concerning the City’s activities.
The easiest way to submit an initiative and gather supporters is through the Kuntalaisaloite.fi online service. Kuntalaisaloite.fi is provided by the Finnish Ministry of Justice and is safe and free to use.
