Museums

The City of Kuhmo operates two museums: the Winter War Museum and the Tuupala Museum.

The Winter War Museum is a specialised museum presenting the events of the Winter War (1939–1940) in the Kuhmo region.

The Tuupala Museum is a historic house museum offering a glimpse into local life and traditions.

Visitors can also explore the Untold Arctic Wars digital exhibition and the Kuhmo Scale Model 1939, which depicts the church village of Kuhmo just before the outbreak of the Second World War.

Winter War Museum

The Winter War Museum is open throughout the year.

Admission tickets and products from the museum shop can also be purchased through our online store.

The museum accepts the most common debit and credit cards, cash and the Museum Card. Mobile payment methods such as ePassi, Eazybreak and Smartum are also accepted.

The museum shop offers books, postcards and other souvenirs.

Untold Arctic Wars

Untold Arctic Wars is a digital exhibition exploring the Arctic front during the Second World War.

The exhibition is open during the Winter War Museum’s opening hours. Access is available with a door code obtained from the Winter War Museum.

Tuupala Museum

The Tuupala Museum is open during the summer season.

Kuhmo Scale Model 1939

The Kuhmo Scale Model 1939 presents the centre of Kuhmo as it appeared on 26 August 1939, shortly before the outbreak of the Winter War.

The model was created by the Kuhmo Local Heritage Association.

Free admission.

Entrance is from Kainuuntie.

Donations

The museum welcomes donations of objects, photographs and archival material.

Kuhmo Local Heritage Archive

The Kuhmo Local Heritage Archive is located at the Kuhmo City Hall.

The archive preserves materials relating to local associations, organisations, companies, families, farms and private individuals, as well as manuscripts and archival copies of printed publications.

The archive can be visited by appointment.
