Grants and Support
The City of Kuhmo supports the activities of associations, volunteers and event organisers in a variety of ways. Forms of support include grants, free meeting facilities and expert support.
Each year, within the appropriations allocated in the budget, the City of Kuhmo awards grants to registered associations, unregistered groups and private individuals. Political or religious groups are not eligible to apply.
The purpose of the grants is to support activities that promote well-being, vitality, community spirit and participation within the City of Kuhmo. Supported activities must be linked to the approved city strategy and the comprehensive well-being report.
From 2026 onwards, grants for associations are primarily provided on the basis of Sustainable Development Agreements. Development grants will continue to be awarded through an application process.
For questions concerning grants, please contact Acting Rural Affairs Secretary Janne Ylijoki in the first instance:

Agreement-Based Support for Associations and Events
The City of Kuhmo may provide financial support to associations or major events through separate agreements, within the specific appropriations allocated in the budget. In such cases, the activities and commitments are carried out within the framework agreed upon in the contract. Support may be granted on a one-off basis or for an agreed contract period.
As a new form of cooperation, the City uses the Sustainable Development Agreement model. Through these agreements, associations, businesses, parishes, educational institutions and other organisations operating in Kuhmo can commit to local cooperation with the City’s different sectors.
Discretionary Support
The City of Kuhmo may award one-off discretionary grants within the appropriations allocated for this purpose in the City Board’s budget.
