Municipal Supplement to the Child Home Care Allowance

The City of Kuhmo will discontinue the municipal supplement to the child home care allowance from 1st of August 2026.

The municipal supplement is paid to families where a parent personally cares for all the children at home and the youngest child is under the age of 3. A child of pre-primary education age may attend municipal pre-primary education.

Families with a child under the age of 3 who does not attend municipal early childhood education and care are entitled to the child home care allowance. An additional allowance is paid for siblings who do not attend municipal early childhood education and care. Families may also be eligible for an income-related care supplement, depending on the size and income of the family.

The municipal supplement is €100 per month for the youngest child and €30 per month for each additional sibling under school age. The supplement is paid as an increase to the care allowance and is taxable income. The municipal supplement is not paid retroactively.

The child home care allowance is applied for through Kela. There is no separate application for the municipal supplement: it is automatically paid to eligible families in Kuhmo who receive the child home care allowance.
