Register of Interests
Under the Finnish Local Government Act (410/2015), certain elected officials and municipal officers are required to publicly declare their interests. The purpose of the regulations concerning declarations of interests is to promote openness and transparency in municipal decision-making.
Requiring declarations of interests and publishing the register online are intended to safeguard residents’ confidence in the independence and impartiality of municipal administration. Section 84(2) of the Local Government Act specifies who is subject to the obligation to declare their interests. The obligation applies to key elected officials and senior municipal officers.
The Register of Interests is an online service that provides a flexible and secure way to declare and monitor the interests of elected officials and senior municipal officers.
A new system for declaring and reporting interests will be introduced during 2026.
