A Celebration Year in Kuhmo
The year 2026 is a special celebration year for Kuhmo. The City of Kuhmo celebrates its 40th anniversary, the Municipality of Kuhmo marks 160 years, and Kuhmo Upper Secondary School celebrates its 70th anniversary. Kuhmo is also proud to be part of the Oulu2026 European Capital of Culture programme.
The anniversary theme, “A Life Well Lived”, reflects the joy, creativity and strong sense of community that define Kuhmo. Throughout the year, residents and visitors are invited to celebrate, participate and create memorable experiences together.
A Year-Round Cultural Destination
Kuhmo is internationally renowned for its vibrant cultural life and festivals.
Each year, the town hosts:
- Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival, one of the world’s leading chamber music festivals
- Sommelo Folk Music Festival, celebrating folk music and Kalevalaic singing traditions
- Joutsentanssi – Kuhmo Dance Festival, where contemporary dance meets the surrounding nature
In addition to these internationally recognised events, Kuhmo offers a rich programme of local festivals and community events throughout the year, including Römppä Week, Summer Musicians, Jolly July, Kuhmo Christmas, and Kuhmo Winter.
Together with an active arts community, these events ensure that there is always something to experience in Kuhmo—whatever the season.
