Environmental Protection
The municipal environmental protection authority is responsible for supervising and promoting environmental protection within the municipality. Its objective is to ensure a healthy, safe and pleasant living environment for residents.
In Kuhmo, the Vitality Committee serves as the municipal environmental protection authority and has delegated part of its decision-making powers to municipal officials. The authority’s responsibilities include processing and supervising environmental permits and extraction permits under the Land Extraction Act, as well as handling notifications required under the Environmental Protection Act. It also monitors the state of the environment and participates in matters related to environmental protection.
The Kuhmo City Council has adopted local environmental protection regulations. Compliance with these regulations is supervised by the City of Kuhmo’s environmental protection authority.
