Villages

There are 25 village associations or village committees operating in Kuhmo. Their activities range from hobby and recreational programs to community development projects. Throughout the year, the villages organize a wide variety of events, celebrations, and other community activities. The Sotkamo Adult Education Centre also arranges study circles and courses in several villages.

The surrounding natural environment offers numerous opportunities for outdoor recreation and leisure activities.

The village associations of Härmänkylä, Iivantiira, Lentiira, and Vartius own their former village school buildings, which now serve as community centers. Other former village schools, privately owned, also function as gathering places for local residents, including those in Kuusamonkylä and Jonkeri.
