Ways to Travel to Kuhmo

Kuhmo is situated in Eastern Finland, 600 km north-east of Helsinki. The nearest airport and railway station are in Kajaani, some 100 km west of Kuhmo. There is a taxi/bus service from the Kajaani airport and a bus service from the railway station to Kuhmo.

By Air

Finnair has two flights in a week to Kajaani (2th of Nowenber 2020 – 31th of March 2021).

Transport from airport

There is a daily transport connections from the Kajaani airport to Kuhmo. Further information and bookings by e-mail: matkatoimisto@matka-kyllonen.fi. (tel.+358 8 6520771, weekdays, 9 a.m – to 16 p.m.). The driver, tel.+358 44 242 3695. Reservations must be made at previous day.

Visitors can fly on a light aircraft to Kuhmo airfield (information).

By Train

The nearest railway station is in Kajaani. There are several southbound and northbound train connections daily from Kajaani. Further information, timetables, and tickets are available on the VR (Finnish Railway Company) website or at travel agencies. There is a bus service from the Kajaani railway station to Kuhmo.

By Bus

The bus service between Kuhmo and the neighbouring towns operates as part of the Kajaani regional public transport. Further information about bus transport is available at the matka.fi website, and on the map search of the same site.

By Car

The shortest route to Kuhmo from the south runs through Nurmes, along the main road 75, which is part of the tourist route ‘Road of Poem and Border’. You may also come to Kuhmo via Kajaani, taking first highway 5 to Kajaani and then the eastbound main road 76 to Kuhmo.
